弋阳腔曲谱系统与昆山腔不同,亦不受宫调的束缚。其剧本中出现叠(重)句的情况,大多是帮腔。其曲牌构成比较特殊,随意性较大,使用方面较为混乱,最终导致曲牌解体,其中,曲牌类的划分、宫调的出入互用、帮腔和滚调对曲牌的破坏等是重要原因。滚调主要是从诗赞体说唱文学汲取而来,突破了曲牌联套的限制,为板式变化提供了基本条件和前提。总之,弋阳腔在板腔体戏曲形成过程中起到了至为关键的推动作用。
