The direct reduction of iron ore to produce EAF raw materials is currently of major economic value in the world. For this purpose, ultra-pure iron concentrates containing less than 2% silica are required. Semi-industrial tests and industrial production show that wet magnetic field separators are well suited to meet this requirement with high recovery and low investment and operating costs. Using the Jones Magnetic Separator, ultra-pure concentrates of less than 1.5% silica and more than 90% silica have been sorted from preselected concentrates obtained by fractionation, reselection or field weakening.
