云南南部哀牢山山脉以西的丘陵山地,在冬期有一种特有的气候资源,这就是山地逆温。山地逆温在一些地方虽然在一年四季中均有可能出现,但以冬期出现强度大、频率高,与橡胶树遭受低温寒害的季节相匹配,形成了有利于橡胶树越冬的避寒环境,并可适当弥补冬季热量的不足,形成我省植胶的重要气候资源。 冬期热量不足,特别是低温寒害是我国植胶垦区的主要限制因子。现在已经完全可以这样说,为什么云南南部哀牢山山脉以西的地区成为我国纬度最北、海拔最高的植胶区(这里生产性植胶海拔界限已达到1000米,试种胶树海拔已达1400米),其原因就是山地逆温的关系。
