I. Teaching objective
By the end of the session, most Ss will be able to: 1) grasp key words: theater, cinema, seat, screen, comfortable, close to, quality. 2) grasp some superlative adjectives: cheapest, biggest, the most comfortable; best, worst. 3) Discuss preferences and make comparisons using the target language. 4) know some speaking strategies. These will be achieved by:
a) Brainstorming about the important qualities of movie theaters and present new words
b) Showing pictures and using information about real movie theaters
c) Listening for information about the qualities of movie theaters.
d) Showing tasks and asking Ss to make a conversation about target language
II. Moral objective
After the study of this period, students will be able to discuss preferences and make comparisons. Furthermore, students can finish the tasks using the target language they learn and take an active part in the English activities.
III. Culture awareness
Students will know the environment and people around them better. Then they can make comments and give their own opinions in right ways by making comparisons.

Step 2 Presentation and practice
T: Who is the friendliest student in our class?
Help them to say like this: … is the friendliest student in our class. Teach them how to pronounce –est and pay attention to the word the before friendliest. Encourage them to make similar sentences.

T: I usually go to the movie theater with my best friend. Do you often go to the movie theater? Ss: …
T: What qualities do you think about when you choose a movie theater?

Then ask Ss to work in pairs:

Then show the Ss three cinemas in Wenzhou they know well: Wanda Cinema, New Times Cinema and New China Cinema.
T: Look at three cinemas. Which one do you think has the friendliest service?
Ss: New Times Cinema has the friendliest service of three. (Help Ss to answer)
Encourage them to describe the movie theaters using superlative degree and pay attention to the usage of is and has.
S1: New China Cinema is the cheapest.
S2: New China Cinema is the most popular.…
T: A: What’s the best movie theater?
S: Wanda Cinema. It has the biggest screens.
T: But I think New China Cinema is the cheapest. Let’s make a conversation like this:

Step 4 Listening and imitating
(1)T: Three kids decide to go to a movie. They are discussing which movie theater to go to. Listen and circle the movie theaters they are talking about.

Then check the answers.
(2) Listen again. Match the statements with the movie theaters and write in the names of the theaters. (1b).
Then check the answers.
(3) Repeating and acting
T: Let’s listen and repeat. Try to imitate their pronunciation and intonation.
Play the recording again and let students imitate the pronunciation and intonation, especially the rising and falling tones. Pause and emphasize on some of the sentences.
Ss: (Repeat after the recording. And try to mark some special tones.)
Then, students work in groups, practice reading the dialogue and try to act it out. Teacher walks around to offer help and check if Ss read with the proper pronunciation and intonation.
After that, ask students to act it out in class. Other students are to be the guide to see which group act best. They can judge from: pronunciation, intonation, voice, influence, cooperation, gesture and feeling. Step 5 Groupwork
T: After enjoying a wonderful movie, you want to have dinner together. Where do you decide to go for dinner, for example, Wenzhou Noodle House, KFC or Shedefang Restaurant? Why? Discuss in group of four.
S1: I think Wenzhou Noodle House is the best, because it is the cheapest.

Go through the rules of superlative degree and the the sentence patterns on the blackboard, and help students get a summary of what they have learnt today.
