Recently, the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Research Center announced the completion of the world’s first watermelon genome sequence mapping and deciphering. The International Watermelon Genome Project was initiated by the Vegetable Research Center of Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences. The sequence analysis of the genome of watermelon was completed. The high quality genome sequence of watermelon was obtained, and the genetic code of watermelon was successfully deciphered. This is the world’s first watermelon genome sequence map dominated by China and is another breakthrough major achievement in the field of plant genome. It marks that the research on watermelon genomics in China has gained international leading position.
