D-Day was the largest landing battle in the 20th century and one of the most influential landing campaigns in the history of the war. From June 6 to the beginning of July, 1944, millions of troops in the United States, Britain and Canada, 170,000 vehicles, 600,000 tons of various types of supplies, successfully crossed the English Channel. The successful landing of Normandy and the return of U.S. and British troops to the European continent have radically changed the strategic situation of the Second World War. After the start of the Normandy Landing Campaign, in response to the operations of the front-line landing forces, the Allied dispatched the U.S. 101 Airborne Division to parachute into the Champions area on the day before landing and seize the outlet for offensive development from the beach to the inland and to prevent the German reinforcements .
