According to the British “Financial Times” report, British bicycle companies are implementing a strategic measure and hope to use their advanced design and production technologies to enter the Chinese market. Since the EU imposed a 34% anti-dumping tax on Chinese bicycles two years ago, the number of bicycles that China has exported to EU countries has dropped from 2.5 million in 1991 to 50,000 in 1994. At the same time, however, China’s bicycle accessories exported to EU countries have increased substantially, equivalent to an annual export of 800,000 vehicles. For this reason, bicycle manufacturers in EU countries have complained to the European Commission and demanded control of this disguised export. Some bicycle manufacturers in the United Kingdom believe that instead of stopping Chinese bicycle exports, it is better to use their own technology and design advantages to bring their products into the Chinese market. One of the world’s largest bicycle companies, Derby International, has opened a company in Shenzhen, China, and plans to transfer the production technology of the best-selling global RALEGHH MTB to Chinese companies. The company believes that the annual production of bicycles in the world is 120 million vehicles.
