Mao Zedong: We are more powerful today than we were yesterday. Not only do we have more planes and artillery but also atomic bombs. In today's world, if we are to be bullied by others, we can not do without it. Zhou Enlai: China's development of nuclear weapons is entirely for self-defense. Deng Xiaoping: Without atomic bombs and missiles, we will not be able to enter the world big triangle and we will not have such an international status today. Jiang Zemin: We are opposed to engaging in strength diplomacy in international affairs, but we ourselves must have the strength. Khrushchev: Chinese comrades are reluctant to participate in the nuclear umbrella and have to engage in their own operations. Not only can I not get an atomic bomb, but I am afraid I will not even wear any trousers. Chen Yi: Well, when it's pants, we also want to engage in missile nuclear weapons! The result is that just over a dozen hours after Khrushchev stepped down, news of the success of China's first atomic bomb explosion followed suit. It was like a ridicule.
