An important criterion for in vitro culture of tumor cells is the ability to develop tumors in a suitable host. A widely used animal is athymic nude mice. However, in vitro experimental method is more simple and rapid. These experiments are based on some of the growth characteristics of tumor cells, mainly adherent growth on soft agar. Normal cells and non-transformed cells can not grow adherent. Therefore, studying the relationship between cell adherent growth ability and tumor occurrence in animals can prove that the growth characteristics of tumor cells cultured in vitro are not necessary for tumorigenesis. Here we report a case of squamous cell carcinoma LT-2 cell line that is not adherent to soft agar in vitro and can develop tumors in nude mice
