Nitrendipine has been used to treat high blood pressure due to its vascular selectivity and prolonged calcium antagonism. Many ex vivo and in vivo studies have demonstrated that it inhibits calcium influx within the smooth muscle and therefore has been directed to explain the antihypertensive effects of nitrendipine by dilating blood vessels and decreasing increased peripheral vascular resistance. However, it has long been recognized that the antihypertensive effect of nitrendipine differs from that of other vasodilators at least in animal experiments. Nitrendipine on the kidneys of sodium and non-calcium-antagonistic vasodilator different. The following facts confirm that nitrendipine diuretic, sodium function is its inherent characteristics, and contribute to its antihypertensive effect.
