许多英语词有本义(inherent meaning)和转义(non-inherent meaning)两种意义.所谓本义,是指词原来的意义;所谓转义,是指词的引伸意义.在很多情况下,同一个英语词取其本义还是取其转义意义,在词的用法上并没有什么区别.例如:
