The “Voyager” 1 spacecraft launched in 1977 has traveled for a long time and has flown out of the shock boundary of the solar system. It will soon become the first artificial spacecraft to enter the space outside the solar system. After nearly 28 years of flight, “Voyager” 1 is currently nearly 14 billion kilometers from the Sun. In the area where it is located, the influence of the sun has abruptly weakened, and the charged solar wind has rapidly decelerated into a thin interstellar gas, known as the solar wind sheath. “Voyager” project scientist Edward Stone metaphorically stated that this spacecraft has now entered the “last lap of the long-distance running,” and it is detecting the outermost boundary of the solar system. In the dark, cold space away from the sun, the “traveler” is driven by the radioisotope thermoelectric unit it is equipped with.
