本文以比较文学形象学为理论参照,以《见闻札记》为例,试析华盛顿.欧文笔下的英国形象。一方面,历史胜迹、人文名作、古朴风俗、雅致风景共同组成了文化英国的形象;另一方面,日益浮躁的城市与正在消逝的传统也表明英国所受现代物质文明的影响。英国形象的塑造不仅是欧文精神寻根的需求与反思,同时也寄予了作者对美国自身形象的辩护与期许。
This article takes comparative literature image theory as the reference of the theory and takes “Reading and Reading Notes” as an example to analyze the image of England by Washington Irving. On the one hand, historic sites, famous humanities, ancient customs, and elegant scenery make up the image of a cultural UK. On the other hand, increasingly impetuous cities and the passing tradition also show the influence of modern material civilization in Britain. The shaping of the image of Britain is not only the demand and reflection of Irving’s spiritual roots but also the author’s defense and expectation of America’s own image.
