In 1983, the construction team of the Baikal-Amur Main Line will complete a 400 km trunk line. Of the 3,145km routes, more than 1,171 kilometers (Ust-Kut-Komsomol) have been put into operation. In 1982, 11.7Mt of goods and nearly 1 million travelers were transported. In 1967 the Soviet government decided to build the Baikal - Amur trunk, but it was not ordered to start until 1974. The project is scheduled to be completed on October 24, 1984, but all the works will be completed by the end of 1985 and the entire line has been put into operation. The line’s limit grade is 9 ‰, while in some sections it is 18 ‰, which requires pushing back. The minimum curve radius is 400m.
