A series of concentrations of 0, 200, 500 and 1000 mg·kg-1 rare earth fertilizer were added to present sand-fixing technology system. 3 months later, the height, dry weight, chlorophyll content, nitrate reductase, ATPase and rare earth elements (La, Ce and Nd) were measured or determined. Rare earth (RE) fertilizer promotes the growth and development of liquorice obviously, with the 500 mg·kg-1 treatment performing best. The height increased by 34%, and the root dry weight and total dry weight increased by 105% and 90.5% individually. 500 mg·kg-1 treatment also has highest chlorophyll a content, total chlorophyll content, chl a/b ratio, nitrate reductase and ATPase. The Rare earth element (REE) contents are not positively related to the concentrations of RE fertilizer used. 500 mg·kg-1 treatment has lowest REE content in shoots and has the highest REE contents in roots amidst three RE fertilizer treatments. The three REEs measured have the same rule of rising and falling. At any RE fertilizer concentration treated, Ce>La>Nd. The effect of ion beam implantation on rare earth effects was also studied. At the dose of 900×2.3×1013 ions/cm2, ion beam implanted liquorice with RE fertilizer treatment has the best performance, with lateral root number increasing about 37.6%. Ion beam implantation has obvious effect on absorption and assignment of REEs. All the results show that joint application of rare earth fertilizer and ion beam implantation to our sand-fixing technology system has significant biological effects on liquorice. 900×2.6×1013 ions/cm2 and 500 mg·kg-1 RE fertilizer is the best combination for liquorice.
