According to the “Science Policy Outlook” magazine, research in the fields of biology and medicine began to receive more and more attention in Germany. One indication of this trend is that, of the budget for the German research department in 1993, funding for biological research may outweigh the costs of physical research that has long been considered darling. The reform of the distribution of budgetary funds was made by the Advisory Committee of the Research Department and reflects the concern of the German public regarding the problems that arose after the reunification of Germany.
