INTRODUCTION In order to provide an early warning of a threat, the AEW radar is required to detect long-range targets. Due to this requirement, combined with the continuous decrease in the target radar cross-section, special emphasis has been placed on the design of such a radar. Since the radar is airborne, it can see a large area of ground (sea) surface clutter. The clutter signal that opposes the target signal must be reduced by filtering in the time domain, the frequency domain, or the spatial domain. This article is about the relationship between the choice of pulse repetition frequency and the required antenna sidelobe level. This study relates the effect of pulse repetition frequency selection (which specifies the conditions of time and frequency filtering) to radar performance with the antenna sidelobe, which provides spatial filtering.
