Intel公司的两家竞争对手Cyrix和AMD公司二月下旬在我国台湾省展示了未来为低价PC市场设计的产品。在与出产芯片组的威盛公司联合召开的研讨会上,Cyrix公司工程总监讨论了下一代MediaGX处理器,称为Mxi,将带有多媒体扩展或3-D技术。 Cyrix公司拒绝透露Mxi上市的具体时间,但已经发表了不少CPU的技术细节和Socket 7的未来出路等。Cyrix公司表示将于第二季度推出支持100MHz总线速度的300MHz 6x86处理器。这种处理器称为6x86 MX-PR300GP将是Cyrix公司第一款使用0.25微米技术生产的CPU。这款CPU的设计定位是于1500美元以下的PC。最初将在IBM的工厂里生产,同时生产的还有位于台湾新竹的台湾半导体制造公司,他们是Cyrix公司的另一家生产厂。与Cyrix相似,AMD公司也画出了K6处理器的蓝图和对Socket 7架构的扩展。AMD公司亚太区市场总监Mark Lunsford表示Socket 7架构至少能够支持到1999年。但据悉AMD公司正在设计一种称为Slotllike的架构,而Cyrix公司最近已经从Intel获得了Slotl的许可证。
Two of Intel’s competitors, Cyrix and AMD, demonstrated in the late February in Taiwan Province of China the products designed for the low-cost PC market in the future. In a joint seminar with the VIA chip-producing company, Cyrix Engineering discusses the next generation of MediaGX processors, called Mxi, with multimedia extensions or 3-D technology. Cyrix refused to disclose the specific time Mxi listed, but has made a lot of technical details of the CPU and the future of Socket 7 and so on. Cyrix said it will introduce a 300MHz 6x86 processor supporting 100MHz bus speed in the second quarter. Called the 6x86 MX-PR300GP, this processor will be the first Cyrix CPU to use 0.25-micron technology. The design of this CPU is located in the PC below 1,500 US dollars. It will initially be manufactured at IBM’s facilities, along with Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturing company Hsinchu, Taiwan, another Cyrix production facility. Similar to Cyrix, AMD also drew a roadmap for K6 processors and extensions to the Socket 7 architecture. Mark Lunsford, director of marketing for AMD Asia Pacific, said the Socket 7 architecture will support at least 1999. However, it is reported that AMD is designing a framework called Slotllike, and Cyrix recently obtained Slotl’s license from Intel.
