Objective To investigate the value of plasma B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) in predicting pulmonary hypertension. Methods Plasma BNP concentration and pulmonary arterial systolic pressure (SPAP) were measured in 48 patients with pulmonary hypertension and 46 healthy individuals. The BNP levels in two groups were compared with pulmonary hypertension. Results The plasma BNP concentration in the control group was significantly lower than that in the pulmonary hypertension group (47.1 ± 29.3 pg / L) and 271.8 ± 153.7 pg / L (P <0.01), while there was no significant difference in the plasma BNP concentrations between the mild and moderate pulmonary hypertension groups (P> 0.05). Conclusion The plasma concentration of BNP is correlated with pulmonary hypertension, but the plasma BNP concentration is not correlated with the severity of pulmonary hypertension.
