This article examines the interaction between idiosyncratic anxiety and psychic preparation for both psychological and physiological stress responses during microscopic examination. Ninety patients were classified as anxious and non-anxiety based on their scores on the Spielberger Trait Quality Anxiety Scale. The results showed that subjective pain during examination and anxiety before and after microscopic examination were significantly higher in anxiety trait than in non-anxiety trait, but the change of systolic blood pressure in the former was lower than the latter. Both anxiety traits and non-anxiety traits have a beneficial effect on mental preparation, yet they benefit differently. With regard to systolic and state anxiety, this psychic preparation technique is more effective for non-anxiety traits.
