Short-distance freestyle has always been my favorite coaching program because I’ve done a great job on this project. In my opinion, the most important thing to do is to set up a satisfactory training program to improve short-distance freestyle training. Our short range freestyle was a great success at the University of California, Los Angeles. Our training program made it very hard for athletes to train, and was also very satisfied. At the beginning of the season we arranged for all team members to swim 200 and 500 yards, many of whom also spent some time on other distances. As Tom Jagger (who later became world champion) grew up, his coach, Taylor, arranged for him to swim 1650 yards
