Pratt & Whitney is conducting cyclic durability tests with an improved F119 engine to investigate new technologies that can be ported to engine-powered JSF and F-22A engines. The company is conducting these studies in its Roots Component and Engine Structural Review Research (Caesar) program, funded by Wright Laboratories, F-22 Systems Planning Office, JSF Joint Planning Office and Pratt & Whitney. Although a cyclic durability test is ongoing, the early design validation tests for the core engine used by the Caesar program actually started last May. These reviews were part of Pratt & Whitney’s East Hartford facility as part of an advanced turbine engine gas generator program that was completed in August last year.
