OBJECTIVE: To design an animal model with vascular and nerve prefabricated flaps and to study the feasibility of using the prefabricated flap with blood vessels and nerves to treat severe injury of limbs. Methods A total of 15 New Zealand white rabbits were divided into 3 groups according to the name of the vascular bundle to be implanted: group A was implanted with the inferior abdominal arteriovenous vascular bundle; group B was implanted with extracapsular arteriovenous vascular bundle; group C implants Arteriovenous vascular bundles and part of the femoral nerve. Three weeks after operation, gross observation, vascular flap staining and histological examination of living flap were performed respectively to observe the growth of vascular nerves. Results The blood vessels in the prefabricated flap grew well, showing a few nerve fibers and axons growing distally. Conclusion The prefabricated nerve and vascular flaps are feasible. This method overcomes the problem of the traditional flaps’ bloated appearance and poor sensory function.
