Climacteric dysfunctional uterine bleeding is a common disorder that affects mainly the women aged over 40 years. The main symptoms and signs are frequent and irregular or prolonged menstruation with menorrheal bleeding due to dysfunction of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary-uterine axis but with no organic lesions of the extal or intal reproductive organs. In TCM, this disorder falls into the category of beng lou (崩漏 metrorrhagia and metrostaxis). In treating 43 such cases, the author used a formula called Augmented Origin-Lifting Brew (Jia Wei Ju Yuan Jian 加味举元煎) to supplement the spleen and kidney, and reinforce the Chong Channel to control the bleeding, with quite good results reported in the following.
