南齐·谢赫著作《画品》中最早提及“六法”论,成为中国古代评判艺术品的标准和重要美学原则,“六法”论最初是针对人物画,后来扩展到其它艺术领域。“六法”把“气韵生动”放在第一位,充分体现了“韵”在艺术品中的重要地位。“晋人尚韵”。晋人尚韵的书风,是以王羲之为领袖的艺术群体共同形成的书法风格流派。所谓韵,就是韵致、风度。康有为《广艺舟双揖》也说:“书以晋人为最工,盖姿制散逸,谈锋要妙,风流相扇,其俗然也”。对于王羲之更是多有评语,袁昂《古今书评》
The earliest reference to “Liu Fa ” in Nan Qi Sheikh’s “Paintings” became the standard and an important aesthetic principle of judging artworks in ancient China.
