The Klang Port Authority is a conglomerate that was established in July 1963. In 1986, Port Klang ported its container terminal to KCT, setting a precedent for the privatization of the country's major terminal. Klang Port Authority holds a 20% stake in KCT, the stock in the country's capital Kuala Lumpur listed. The rest of Beigang District and Nankang District were handed over to KPM in 1992. By 1994, the West Port Area was also handed over to the Klang Multi-purpose Terminal. In this way, the Klang Port Authority can get away from its day-to-day business activities and concentrate its efforts on trade promotion. The Port Authorities Act (1990) empowered the Regulatory (Regulatory) Authority to regulate the activities of privately-owned terminal operators, including determining the direction of the development of the terminals and ensuring that the Port-of-Port safeguards and price policies are followed up to their normal working standards. The Klang Port Authority is appointed by the Sudan (King) of Malaysia and 10 directors (including the general manager) are appointed by the Minister of Transport.
