The British industrial system exists both in the state and in the private sector. State-owned enterprises are limited to coal, steel, railways, civil aviation, electricity and gas systems, but all the chemical industry belongs to the private sector. Like state-owned enterprises, the UK’s large private chemical companies have their own occupational health services. The headquarters of the company has industrial health offices and health stations in each factory. Due to the abundant capital of state-owned enterprises, major chemical industry companies also have more advanced toxicology laboratories. The author visited 1981 in 1981 the two largest chemical companies in the UK - Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) and the British Shell. Taking these two companies as an example, I give a brief introduction to occupational health institutions in the British chemical industry.
