GE Electric Locomotive Depot completed its test car (an active diagnostic lab) in 1973 to improve the performance and reliability of its U-Series and E-Series locomotives. This test car is designed, arranged and equipped according to the principle that it can evaluate the characteristics of the locomotive system and structure on multiple tests, whether it is on a GE test line, a DOT test line or any railway line in the United States . The GE-100 test car (Figure 1), made in 1972, was remodeled by a passenger car with sleeper and living room.
