Plus, Medical Post, Vol. 16, No. 6, (1980), reported in Atlanta: Emory University researchers claimed that they had successfully cultured leukemic cells in laboratory culture and survived for months. Leukemia cells were bone marrow samples taken from 2 unlabeled cells in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Abdel Ragab, a professor of pediatric cancer and leukaemia at Emory University School of Medicine, said that leukemia cells are cultured in a medium that contains the main nutrients that can grow cells. Ragab and colleagues used an improved technique for the cultivation of leukemia cells that had been used in the past to cultivate normal blood cells in the laboratory. Ragab said that although leukemia cells have been cultured in other medical centers, the success rate is very low.
