Netherlands National Railways (NS) recently submitted a contract of 1.15 billion guilders ($ 571.6 million) to the German manufacturer Talbot for ordering 290 double-decker buses for inter-regional passenger transport. Inter-regional passenger transport is a Class II passenger transport listed in the new three-passenger schedule to be implemented by the Dutch Railways in 1996. The cars will be delivered in groups of three and four, with 34 in three groups and 47 in four groups, with delivery starting in 1994. In the early days, these shuttles and passengers will be powered by locomotives. The Netherlands Railroad intends to eventually replace the locomotive with a powered car with driver’s cab and passenger room and make it into an EMU. Of the eight axles per vehicle, six should be moving axles.
