January 1, 1980, the Soviet Union electrified railway mileage reached 42,434 kilometers, accounting for 30% of the national railway mileage. Of these, the 27,900 km line is 27.5 kV AC (including the 296 km 2 × 27.5 kV system in the Orsha-Vyazma zone) and the 25,534 km line is 3.3 kV DC.
