中国加入WTO后,对理工科大学生的外语水平,尤其是英语水平提出了更高的要求。为使学生英语学习不间断,大部分理工科高校在学生学完大学英语后,即从第5学期或第6学期起开设专业英语课。这实际上是大学英语教学的补充与延伸,其目的是使学生在进一步巩固普通英语水平的基础上掌握一定数量的专业英语词汇,提高专业英语文献的检索、阅读能力以及学生在专业技术领域的英语表达能力,有利于促进学生今后的对外技术交流以及追踪世界最新科技动态能力的提高。如何提高专业英语课的教学质量就成为摆在我们面前的一项重要任务。过去两年来,为了适应新时期经济发展对专业人才的需要,我们在专业英语教学方面进行了一些改革,取得了初步成效。本文就是对我们教学改革思路和做法的介绍。
After China’s accession to the WTO, it puts forward higher requirements for science and engineering students’ foreign language proficiency, especially English. In order to keep students’ English learning uninterrupted, most colleges of science and engineering offer specialized English classes starting from the fifth or sixth semester after students complete college English. This is actually a supplement and extension of college English teaching. Its purpose is to enable students to master a certain amount of professional English vocabulary on the basis of further consolidating the level of general English, improve the retrieval and reading ability of professional English literature, and students in the field of professional technology. The ability to express English is conducive to the promotion of students’ future foreign technology exchanges and the ability to track the world’s latest technological dynamics. How to improve the quality of professional English teaching has become an important task before us. In the past two years, in order to meet the needs of professionals in the new era of economic development, we have carried out some reforms in professional English teaching and achieved initial results. This article is an introduction to our teaching reform ideas and practices.
