明水的意思,即为明净的水源,但在甘肃马鬃山的明水村却是一个极度缺乏水源的地方,4200平方公里的戈壁滩上,地下水源少得可怜。甘肃酒泉边防支队明水边防派出所就坐落在这里。明水辖区地处巴丹吉林沙漠边缘,西与新疆哈密相连,北与蒙古国毗邻。辖区平均海拔2100米,冬夏最大温差可达100摄氏度,年降水量只有77.75毫米,蒸发量是降水量的的43倍,因其自然环境恶劣,被联合国环境规划署世界保护检测中心列为最不适宜人类居住的“生命禁区”。
