In the 1979.11 issue of “Hunan Number Education”, Zhou Xiande’s article “When Will the Experiment of Sodium and Water Begin to Add Phenolphthalein?”, I feel that after reading it, I still have something to discuss and I recommend it to the author and other comrades. In the general chemistry textbook junior high school, the indicator phenolphthalein solution was used for the first time in experiments where sodium reacts with water. According to the text of the textbook (p. 141), the experimental operation “does drop a few drops of phenolphthalein solution into a beaker filled with water”, which is beneficial to the student’s intuition.
