湘潭电机厂是一个正在扩建的工厂,在1958年大跃进的新形势下,生产任务成倍增加,还有大量新产品要进行试制,在这些新产品中,有的东西国际上都是少有的,技术条件较复杂,如138吨“韶山”号电机车,就是国际尖端技术。但工人的技术文化水平不高,即使加班加点工作,也跟不上生产飞跃发展的需要,这就使生产任务的完成遇到了困难。面对着这种情况,厂党委决定立即大力开展群众性的技术革命和文化革命,指示全厂大办教育,全厂成立了红旗大学总校,各车间、科室共成立了二十三所分校,参加学习的职工达6,400余人。他们的主要经验是:
