The American Railway Society is currently testing an aluminum truck bogie developed by Alusuisse AG in Switzerland. The main feature of this bogie is its low dead weight, which can save 1 ton effective payload for 40 ton tanker. The bogie narrow track version has been successfully used on the Swiss Rhaetian Railway. In addition to its low dead weight, the bogie features four wheels with their own independent suspension system. The wheels are connected to a cross member by four angled booms which can be turned up and down at the ends of the bilobal springs. This design is to prevent the bogie from swaying, and when one wheel is sunk in a recess on the track, allowing the other wheel to pass through
