As one of the promising plasma-facing materials in fusion reactor, tungsten will inevitably be exposed to high-fluxes of plasma species(deuterium and tritium).Deuterium behavior in polycrystalline tungsten has been widely investigated. In general, mirror polished surfaces are experimentally used.Mechanical polishing is usually followed by a stress-relief annealing. The early-stage process of the stress-relief annealing is supposed to remove the residual stresses induced by the mechanical polishing and exclude their influence on the study. However, the real influence of this treatment is not well-known.The aim of this work was to study the effect of residual stresses on the behavior of deuterium in tungsten.
