Formulations of traditional Chinese medicine compound recipe (TCMCR) have a large gap in quality compared with those of chemical medicine, and need to be improved. In promoting quality control of TCMCR, we developed the concept of integration dissolution which was characterized by integrating dissolution ratio of active components throughout the whole dissolution activity. In this study, this concept was applied to Compound Biejia Ruangan Tablet (CBRT), which was used to cure liver fibrosis and early liver cirrhosis in China. We detected dissolution of the four active components of CBRT, i.e.ginsenoside Rg1, phillyrin, paeoniflorin and adenosine of ten batches and integration dissolution ratio of active components. In addition, MTT analysis was obtained by the effect of CBRT.Biological dissolution profiles were not all in good correlation with dissolution release profiles of the four components. But the concept of synchronized release was well proved by the results of high similarity of integration dissolution of multiple components with biological dissolution profiles. It is indicated that a single component is biased in representation the dissolution behavior of traditional Chinese medicine and integration dissolution showed a much better expression on quality control of traditional Chinese medicine.
