Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/TiO2 core sheath nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning an aqueous solution of PVA and introducing the thread-like droplets directly into a titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP)/heptane solution. The PVA-core/TiO2-sheath nanofibers were converted to carbon-core/TiO2 sheath nanofibers via stabilization treatment with iodine vapor at 353 K, followed by carbonization in N2 at 873 K.The formation of core sheath nanofibers with diameters of a few hundred nanometers was confirmed by SEM and TEM observation.Raman spectrometry and XRD measurement showed that the nanofibers were composed of carbon cores with low granhitization degree and TiO2 sheaths with anatase crystal structure.
