Understanding of growth and development of skeletal muscle is one of the most important goals in meat production science and is also related to particular aspects of human medicine. To gain further insight into the molecular mechanism of porcine skeletal muscle development, we combined mass spectrometric characterization of proteins with high-throughput screening of differential mRNAs obtained from purebred Meishan pig longissimus dorsi muscle at four stages of 65 days post coitus (dpc), 3 days, 60 days and 120 days afterbirth.
