The genus Coprinopsis are characterized by rapid autolysis of the mature fruiting body (Muraguchi et al.2008;Kues 2000).Prior to autolysis, the developing fruiting body undergoes remarkable morphogenesis: the stipe elongates and the pileus expands for efficient dispersal of spores.Autolysis of the mature pileus (Kues 2000) and stipe elongation and pileus expansion (Kamada et al.1991;Muraguchi et al.2008) were suggested to result from degradation of cell walls by some glycoside hydrolases.However, these glycoside hydrolases have not be purified from Coprinopsis to date.Recently, we purified an expansin-like protein from snail, which could reconstitute heat-inactivated stipe wall extension of C.cinerea without hydrolytic activity (Zhang et al.2014).Therefore, it is necessary to isolate and purify glycoside hydrolases from C.cinerea to elucidate their roles in stipe elongation, pileus expansion, and fruiting body autolysis.
