Objectives Either metformin or GLP-1 analogue liraglutide,which is widely used in the therapy of type 2 diabetes (T2DM),has been shown to be potentially beneficial in the management of cardiovascular disease.Here, we aimed to investigate whether and how combination therapy of metformin and liraglutide provided an additive or even synergistic effect on the vasculature.Methods Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs)were exposed to palmitic acid (PA) to induce endothelial dysfunction.Various concentrations of metformin and liraglutide were added alone or in combination to observe their protective effects on HUVECs.
