Psychiatry has never been able to cope satisfactorily with the difficult question of differential diagnosis.It has been thought that clinical neurophysiology, through the use of cognitive event-related potentials (ERPs), could solve this problem.Today a growing literature shows that specific psychiatric disorders exhibit abnormal ERPs components in particular conditions and at different latencies.Numerous studies have identified a number of early and late neuroelectric features that seem to be anomalous in various psychiatric populations.
