  The immiscibility of methanol and soybean oil leads to a mass-transfer resistance in the transesterification of soybean oil.To overcome this problem, n-hexane was used as an environmentally friendly cosolvent to produce a homogeneous solution.Transesterifications of soybean oil with methanol in both the presence and the absence of n-hexane were performed using methanesulfonic acid (MSA).The effects of n-hexane loading, MSA loading, methanol/soybean oil molar ratio, reaction time, reaction temperature and concentrations of FFA on FAME yields were also investigated.According to experiments, the best reaction conditions were gotten as followed: n-hexane loading was 30.0%(based on the oil weight), MSA loading was 7.5%(based on the oil weight), molar ratio was 6∶1 (methanol/oil), reaction temperature was 65 ℃, mass of catalyst was 2%of oil (by weight), and reaction time was 6 h.
