Temperature variations, creep and shrinkage, and live load effects can cause expansion joint displacements in the longitudinal direction of a bridge.Expansion joints are important members that accommodate structural displacements and ensure driving comport for drivers. Therefore, expansion joint displacements are not only design factors that determine the selection of expansion joints and bridge bearings but also maintenance factors used in the assessment of the structural health of the bridge in service.According to many studies, expansion joint displacements of large-scale cable-supported bridges are closely related to temperature.Hence,it is very important to monitor and assess the thermal movement behaviors while maintaining the bridge in service.
