Background:Several studies in Western populations have observed that a higher consumption of fruit could help to prevent diabetes incidence, but no such beneficial effect has been reported from China.More importantly,to date there is little direct evidence about the associations of fruit consumption with mortality and incidence of macro-and micro-vascular complications among people with diabetes. We therefore performed the current study to examine the association of fresh fruit consumption with risk of diabetes incidence,as well as,among those who have developed diabetes, with mortality and incidence of diabetes-related macro-& microvascular complications.
