The fast pyrolysis of biomass material was performed by using pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(Py-GC/MS).The analyses were performed to study the effects of pyrolysis temperature on the distribution of the pyrolytic products.During pyrolysis cashew nut shell was used as biomass materials,the pyrolysis temperature used were 673 K,773 K,873 K,973 K and 1073 K.The set time for pyrolysis was 2 s.Several compounds were observed,they were grouped into gas,alkane,acid,ethers and alcohols,ester,aldehyde and kitones,furan and pyran,aromatic compound,and nitrogen containing compunds.It has observed the product compositions were varied with temperature.The highest gas proportion was observed at high temperature and also the highest acid proportion was observed in coconut shells.It has been concluded that high temperature increases amount of pyrolysis products.It has been recommended that coconut shell to be used for production of gas,instead of production of bio-oil due to its highest proportion of acetic acid.
