It is necessary to develop the joining technology for silicon carbide(SiC)and its matrix composites in advanced fusion reactors when it used as blanket structural material and flow channel inserts.High temperature brazing is the promising method for joining of SiC because it does not need high pressure during processing.Cr-Si alloy is a high temperature, low thermal expansion coefficient and low activation alloy, which make it suitable for brazing of SiC/SiC composites for fusion applications.However,Cr-Si alloy is brittle and the reliability of the joint needs to be improved. In this work,29Cr-71Si(wt%)eutectic alloy micro-alloyed with small amount of low activation elements were used to braze SiC.The microstructure evolution of Cr-Si-Me alloys and their wettability on the SiC ceramic as well as the shear strength of the brazed SiC/SiC joints will be systematically investigated.
