The thermal regime of the roadbed in Huashixia Valley along Qinghai-Sichuan Highway,China,is investigated numerically under the condition that the pavement surfaces are asphalt, concrete and gravel, respectively. The results show that under the condition that the height of embankment is 2.0 m,the maximum thawing depth for asphalt pavement is 1.53 m deeper than the natural permafrost table(3.70 m).The maximum thawing depths for both concrete and gravel pavements are less than the natural permafrost table in the 25-year period after construction.
