悬棺葬是一种“棺而不瘗,置诸高崖”的葬俗。特点是:棺木不埋入土中,而把它放在峭壁危崖之上。此种葬俗流行的时间长,分布的地区广,与此葬俗有关的古代民族也众,故葬具、葬式又多所不同,随葬物之文化面貌各殊,置诸高崖的方法颇为多样。因此,关于悬棺葬的族属问题,在研究过程中,似应包括互相联系的两个方面,即:某一地区行悬棺葬者属于何族;诸行悬棺葬者是否同属于一族系?换言之,即在讨论中,解决历来行悬棺葬的南方诸族,在族源上是否有直接的关系。这个问题涉及面很宽,目前意见分歧尚多,暂时还难解决。本文只就百越和百濮文化比较中的某些侧面,提出若干粗浅的看法,以就正于专家、学者们。
